Special (Display), etal.

You go to all the trouble of promoting a two month long SPECIAL display on a hot topic. You amass all the assets relating to the subject. You see all have the unique label for the item, such as: Holocaust, Water Resources, Enviornment, etc. You begin the SPECIAL display period with a beautiful SPECIAL display, but after only two weeks, it looks like Charlie Brown's Christmas tree.

XmasTree01.jpg Does your SPECIAL Display look like this after a couple of weeks? How does this happen?

Are the items returning from circulating & browsing not being returned to the display? Are the aides reshelving them in their normal shelf location, not on the SPECIAL display.

To counter that, some libraries load their Total Library Labelers with SPECIAL (display) labels & imprint the termination date of the display on each label & rapidly apply & affix these labels over the call numbers on each assets. Upon return from circulating or browsing, the aides seek the call numbers, but see the label indicating that the item should be returned to the SPECIAL display until the indicated date, so they replenish the display. When an item is returned after that imprinted date, the aide uses a plastic peeler (PLS-1) or fingernail to remove the 'super-no-res' adhesive label easily & cleanly, exposing the call numbers for the aide to reshelve the item in its normal location.
